Simplot Hill has been a Boise landmark now for generations. This one-time residence of local entrepeneur JR Simplot and his wife, Esther may be the only well known destination for a pastime known as ice blocking: riding a block of ice down the grassy slopes on a hot summer day. Boise's downtown boasts a string of well established public parks along the Boise River, public works of art, plentiful restaurants and coffee shops, and evening attractions like First Thursday, an evening Art exhibition put on by Downtown Boise shops and galleries on the first Thursday evening of each month.
 St. Luke's Hospital is one of the area's oldest and most established hospitals, with locations in downtown Boise (pictured to the right), Off Eagle Road between Meridian and Eagle, as well as small outpatient facilities throughout the Treasure Valley.
